The Basilica of Bom Jesus is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the finest examples of baroque architecture in India. It is located in Old Goa and holds the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier. The church was built in 1605 by the Jesuits and is dedicated to the Infant Jesus (Bom Jesus means "Good Jesus" in Portuguese).
The church houses a richly decorated baroque chapel with the silver casket containing the relics of St. Francis Xavier, which is exposed to the public once every ten years. Millions of pilgrims visit the basilica every year, especially during the feast of St. Francis Xavier on December 3rd.
